Winner Best Reserve Screenplay, Female Eye Film Festival (Toronto), 2017
The screenplay began as a short film script for my thesis project at NYU. I chose to develop it into a feature film length project as I imagined more scenes and a longer story.
I created a character, Juliet, who was based on a composite of creative women I had known in the 90s music scene. Once a famous musician with her life ahead of her, Juliet is now washed up, alone, approaching 40 and battling addiction in Los Angeles. The story became a late in life coming-of-age story and an intensely personal exploration of sexuality and trust, expression and validation, and self-survival and sacrifice. I workshopped the script at the Toronto Female Eye Film Festival and won Best Reserve Screenplay.
